Username Policy
This policy explains how usernames work on Netlink, which names are reserved, and how we handle disputes over a username that may belong to someone else.
1. First Come, First Served
Outside of the reserved and disputed cases below, usernames are generally available on a first come, first served basis. We do not pre-screen every username at signup.
2. Reserved Usernames
Some usernames cannot be registered by anyone. This includes:
- System names — words used internally by the app for pages and routes (e.g. dashboard, pay, tx)
- Netlink trademarks — our own brand and product names (e.g. netlink, netlinkpay)
- Third-party trademarks — well-known brand names we proactively block from impersonation
- Role and authority terms — words that imply official status (e.g. ceo, official, admin, moderator)
A reserved name is not automatically deleted from this list once used internally — we may build a page under a reserved name later without conflict, since real pages always take priority over profile pages of the same name.
Reserved names are blocked for everyone, including the brand or entity the name refers to — this list exists to reduce impersonation and confusion risk, not to grant ownership to any party. A brand wanting to use its own reserved name should contact us directly.
A username being unavailable does not necessarily mean it is owned or in use by anyone — it may simply be on our reserved list. This list only covers names we have proactively identified; it is not exhaustive. If a name is not on this list but you believe it infringes your brand, see Section 4 for how to submit a claim for manual review.
3. Username vs. Registered Trademark
A username is a personal identifier — it is not a Display Name, logo, or brand asset. Holding a registered trademark (e.g. via AHU) protects your brand's name and visual identity in commercial use; it does not by itself entitle you to a specific username string, especially where another user has a legitimate, independent reason to hold that name (such as it being their own legal name, verified via KYC). Trademark claims are strongest when the disputed account is actively using the name to imply affiliation with your brand — not simply holding it.
4. Impersonation and Trademark Claims
We cannot pre-reserve every public figure, celebrity, or brand name in advance. If a username is already taken and you believe it impersonates you or your brand, or infringes your trademark, you can submit a claim to contact@netlink.bio.
We review claims case by case using two verification paths:
- You are the individual or brand owner. We ask for a government-issued ID (or business registration document for a company) that matches the name being claimed, plus a way to confirm you control the identity in question (e.g. a linked verified social account or official email domain).
- You represent the individual or brand. We ask for a signed letter of authorization from the person or company, together with your own ID, so we can verify both the letter and the person granting it.
Submitting a claim does not guarantee the username will be reassigned. We weigh the evidence on both sides, including whether the current holder has a legitimate, unrelated reason to use that name (e.g. it is also their own real name).
5. Cross-Border Claims
The same name can legitimately belong to different people or brands in different countries. A trademark or identity registered in one country does not automatically take priority over a legitimate name-holder in another. Claims are reviewed under the laws of Indonesia, where Netlink is legally established.
6. What Happens if a Claim Succeeds
If a claim is approved, we may rename the existing account's username (freeing the disputed name for the verified claimant), suspend the disputed profile pending its own resolution, or take other action appropriate to the situation. We will always attempt to notify the affected account first.
7. Reporting Abuse
Impersonation used for fraud, scams, or to deceive others about payments or identity may also violate our Terms of Use and can be reported the same way, even while a trademark claim is pending.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as Netlink grows. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated effective date.
